چکیده

The discovery of carbon dioxide assimilation by heterotrophic bacteria (1) and animal tissues (2) aroused considerable interest in the mechanisms involved. Evidence from various sources suggested the Wood and Werkman reaction, i.e. the carboxylation of pyruvate to oxalacetate, as a major pathway (3). Evans, Vennesland, and Slotin (4) discovered that pigeon liver extracts fixed (‘02 in the presence of malate (or fumarate), pyruvate, and catalytic amounts of manganous ions and of either diphosphopyridine nucleotide (DPN) or triphosphopyridine nucleotide (TPN), while catalyzing the overall Reaction 1.

Effect of Passive Immunization with Specific Anti-FSH on Tes- ticular Lipids and Some Lipogenic Enzymes of Adult Bonnet Monkeys

The effect of anti-follicular stimulating hormone (FSH) on testicular lipid and the specific activity of testicular enzymes of the isocitrate dehydrogenase (ICDH), pyruvate/malate dehydrogenase (MDH) and malic enzyme involved in lipogenesis were studied in mature bonnet monkeys, Macaca radiata. Immunization of monkey with anti-FSH for 24 days did not produce any significant changes in the body ...

Pathway of carbon flow during fatty acid synthesis from lactate and pyruvate in rat adipose tissue.

The metabolism of pyruvate and lactate by rat adipose tissue was studied. Pyruvate and lactate conversion to fatty acids is strongly concentration-dependent. Lactate can be used to an appreciable extent only by adipose tissue from fasted-refed rats. A number of compounds, including glucose, pyruvate, aspartate, propionate, and butyrate, stimulated lactate conversion to fatty acids. Based on stu...

Malate Metabolism in Leaf Mitochondria from the Crassulacean Acid Metabolism Plant Kalanchoë blossfeldiana Poelln.

The mechanisms and the controlling factors of malate oxidation by mitochondria from leaves of Kalanchoë blossfeldiana Poelln. plants performing Crassulacean acid metabolism were investigated using Percollpurified mitochondria. The effects of pH and of various cofactors (ATP, NAD(+), coenzyme A) on malate dehydrogenase (EC 1.1.1.37) and malic enzyme (EC 1.1.1.39) solubilized from these mitochond...

The nature and control of the tricarboxylate cycle in beetle flight muscle.

The only exogenous substrates oxidized by mitochondria isolated from the flight muscle of the Japanese beetle (Popillia japonica) are proline, pyruvate and glycerol 3-phosphate. The highest rate of oxygen consumption is obtained with proline. The oxidation of proline leads to the production of more NH3 than alanine, indicating a functioning glutamate dehydrogenase (EC 1.4.1.2). Studies of mitoc...

The oxidation of citrate, isocitrate and cis-aconitate by isolated mitochondria.

There are five oxidative steps involved in the conversion of pyruvate into carbon dioxide and water in the tricarboxylic acid cycle; four of these steps lead to the reduction of nicotinamide nucleotide coenzyme more or less directly. The step catalysed by the succinate dehydrogenase results in the 'energy-linked' reduction of nicotinamide nucleotide coenzyme, under certain conditions (Chance & ...
